Acca sellowiana

Acca sellowiana is an evergreen shrub to small tree. It can grow to be about ten to fifteen feet tall. It is hardy in USDA Zones 8 - 10. Acca sellowiana performs best in full sun, but can tolerate part shade. If it is being grown for its edible fruit, it is best to plant it in more sun. 

Acca sellowiana is grown both as an ornamental plant, but also for its edible fruit. The taste of the fruit, according to Michael Dirr is likened to "pineapple with overtones of spearmint." If grown for its fruit, it is best to look into cultivars with improved fruiting qualities. Aside from the fruit, the plant itself has attractive oval leaves that are green-blue on top and silvery-white underneath. The flowers are also attractive, and tropical looking in appearance. White petals contrast with showy red stamens, making the flowers quite noticeable. Like the fruit, the flowers are also edible.
